Abstract
The drama Kassandra. Eine Tragödie by Hans Schwarz (1890-1967), written in the trenches of World War I and staged only once in 1941, presents a wholly original version of the myth of the Trojan prophetess. In this tragedy, Cassandra is a prisoner of war who succeeds in avenging her humiliated and wronged people by personally killing Agamemnon. Schwarz adapts the myth to the militaristic principles of the Nazi regime, which he shared. This Italian translation of the tragedy is offered as evidence of the deviant and propagandistic ideological reception of the Greek myth in the midst of the horrors of war.
