Impressions of a woman spectator. A feminist look at Lemnos

Abstract

How to narrate the experience of Lemnos from the point of view of an audience member, and of a
feminist audience member at that? This contribution attempts to answer this question by moving
between the analysis of sources and the experience of spectatorship, in order to show the specificities
in the constitution of the audience’s positionality brought about by the performance. Recent theory
(Ubersfeld, Pustianaz) on theatre as a performative - and not only textual - form is put at the service of
the theatrical text, in order to highlight the strategies of signification of bodies and stories. Thus, an
intersection of narratives emerges that takes on a political meaning in the constitution of a community
of spectators and in the passage of stories, which from the ancient resonate in the recent past,
demonstrating their relevance for the present time.
